<p>
Scott grew up in <strong>Apex, North Carolina</strong>, where
he attended Apex Elementary, Apex Middle, and Apex High School.
He graduated with honors from
<strong>North Carolina State University</strong> with a
bachelor's degree in political science and a concentration in
secondary social studies education.
</p>
<p>
Scott began his career as a public-school educator, teaching
at both the middle and high school levels in the Wake County
Public School System. While teaching, he earned a master's
degree in school administration from
<strong>North Carolina Central University</strong> and was
elected to the Apex Town Council. In 2015, the Wake County
Board of Education appointed him as a middle school assistant
principal, beginning the next chapter of his career in
educational leadership.

Education & Research
</span>
<p>
Scott returned to NC State for his doctoral studies, earning
a <strong>Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership</strong>
in 2024. His research focused on bias identification and
intervention through the lens of the
<strong>Rosenthal, or Pygmalion, Effect</strong>, exploring
how expectations and perceptions can influence individual
performance and outcomes, particularly in educational settings.
</p>

<p>
His commitment to public service has extended beyond education.
In 2020, Scott was elected countywide to serve as a
<strong>Wake County Soil and Water Conservation District
Supervisor</strong>, representing a community of more than
one million residents.
</p>
<p>
Outside of his professional and civic work, Scott enjoys
reading, golf, working in the yard, cooking, sporting clays,
spending time with friends and family, and volunteering in
his community.
</p>

<h2>Barbara “Ann” Lassiter</h2>

<p>
Barbara “Ann” Lassiter, who prefers to go by Ann, is a native
of <strong>Raleigh, North Carolina</strong>. She attended
Cathedral School during her elementary years and graduated
from Cardinal Gibbons High School. She later attended
<strong>Western Carolina University</strong> after receiving
the Daniel Moore Governor's Scholarship.
</p>
<p>
In addition to being Scott's mom, Ann built a distinguished
career in public service spanning four decades. Early in her
professional life, she founded and operated a successful public
relations firm, which she later sold following the birth of her
first child.
</p>
<p>
She subsequently began a long career in state government,
serving under governors and legislators from both sides of the
political aisle. Her career included positions with the
<strong>North Carolina General Assembly</strong>,
<strong>Department of Transportation</strong>,
<strong>Department of Cultural Resources</strong>, and
<strong>Governor's Highway Safety Program</strong>.
</p>

Distinguished Service
</span>
<p>
In 1983, Governor Jim Hunt awarded Ann the
<strong>Order of the Long Leaf Pine</strong>, the highest
honor for state service bestowed by the Office of the
Governor of North Carolina, in recognition of her
distinguished service to the state.
</p>

<p>
Her commitment to service has also extended deeply into her
local community. Over the years, she has volunteered regularly
in public schools and even spent time as a substitute teacher.
She has served as a political party precinct chair, an
<strong>Apex Planning Commissioner</strong>, and a Sunday
school teacher.
</p>
<p>
Throughout her life, Ann has believed that strong communities
depend on people who are willing to contribute their time and
talents to others. Now retired from state government, she enjoys
gardening, painting, and spending time with her family.
