The Lassiter Education Foundation is led by people with deep roots in Wake County and decades of experience in education, public service, and community involvement. That tradition of service guides our work to expand opportunities for young people.
Scott Lassiter, Ed.D.
Scott Lassiter is a Wake County native, educator, school administrator, and community leader. Raised in Apex, North Carolina, he attended Apex Elementary, Apex Middle, and Apex High School before continuing his education at North Carolina State University.
He graduated with honors from NC State with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a concentration in secondary social studies education. He began his professional career teaching middle and high school students in Wake County while continuing his education at North Carolina Central University, where he earned a master’s degree in school administration.
His career in education later included service as a school administrator and extensive work focused on students, school leadership, public education, and community engagement.
Scott founded the Lassiter Education Foundation in 2019 with the belief that a young person’s ability to participate in a meaningful educational, recreational, or enrichment experience should not depend entirely on a family’s ability to pay.
Scott earned his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from North Carolina State University in 2024. His research examined bias identification and intervention through the lens of the Rosenthal/Pygmalion Effect, including the ways expectations and perceptions can influence performance and outcomes in educational settings.
Barbara “Ann” Lassiter
Barbara “Ann” Lassiter is a Raleigh native with a lifelong record of public and community service. She attended Cathedral School during her primary years and later Cardinal Gibbons High School before attending Western Carolina University after receiving the Daniel Moore Governor’s Scholarship.
After beginning her professional career, Ann established a successful public relations firm. She later sold the business following the birth of her first child and began what would become a four-decade career in North Carolina state government.
During her career, she served in positions with the North Carolina General Assembly, North Carolina Department of Transportation, Department of Cultural Resources, and Governor’s Highway Safety Program. Her public service spanned administrations and elected leaders of both major political parties.
Beyond her professional work, Ann has remained involved in her community through school volunteering and substitute teaching, service on the Apex Planning Commission, Sunday school teaching, and other civic activities. Now retired, she enjoys gardening, painting, and spending time with family.
In 1983, Governor Jim Hunt awarded Ann the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in recognition of her distinguished service to the State of North Carolina.
